Summer Camp
It's an adventure they can get their hands on!
Summer Camp at Assiniboine Park Zoo is perfect for children 5 to 12 years of age who love animals, nature, art, and spending time outdoors. Campers will enjoy fun-filled summer days exploring the Park and Zoo, and learning about animals and nature while making new friends.
Weekly camps in July and August alternate between two themes that give children the chance to experience the Zoo in a whole new way. This year’s themes are:
The Secret Life of Zoos Weeks 1, 3, 5, 7, 9
Key Elements: Animal Facts & Zoo Jobs
Come listen to the stories of the animals, and meet the people that work at the Zoo. In order to discover the secrets, we will need to work together and participate in fun challenges that will help us investigate the importance of zoos. An exploration behind-the-scenes will look at how important everyone’s role is in making our zoo amazing, for both animals and campers. We will also let you in on a little secret; with all the great experiences we have planned, we know everyone at the zoo will be having a fun time!
Fantastic Animals and Where to Find Them Weeks 2, 4, 6, 8
Key Elements: Locations & Adaptations
Big or small, teeth or claws, you will find many fantastic animals at the Zoo. Designed to satisfy the most inquisitive camper, we will explore the zoo world and discover what makes our animals so amazing. Through games, challenges, a trip behind-the-scenes, and by catching up with keepers, we will investigate how these curious creatures survive. Join us for a magical journey as we explore the call of the wild while building friendships along the way. We know that you will have a blast!
Daily activities include a hands-on animal experience, and a trip to either the Polar Playground at the Zoo or the Nature Playground in the Park. Each week, campers will also enjoy a behind the scenes Zoo experience, discover the benefits of animal enrichment, and have a private chat with a zookeeper. While there is so much to see and do at the Zoo, campers will also venture out into Assiniboine Park to explore the gardens, forests, Riley Family Duck Pond, and other attractions. Each day brings a new adventure!
Campers are divided into four age groups. The daily schedule and activities are tailored to be age-appropriate and encourage positive social interactions among campers. Register your child for one of the four age groups:
Cubs (age 5) | Focus on exploring nature and what it means to be a friend to all animals
Polar Bears (age 6-7) | Focus on animal needs and what we all share in common
Jr. Keeper (age 8-9) | Focus on caring for animals and ourselves
Jr. Researcher (age 10-12) | Focus on helping animals in the wild and at the Zoo
