Biome Temperatures

The biomes at The Leaf are designed to provide optimal growing conditions for thousands of tropical and Mediterranean plants. Temperatures in the biomes will fluctuate depending on the season, time of day, and weather outside. They will typically range between 24°C to 36°C from early spring through late fall and 15°C to 26°C in the coldest months of winter. The biomes tend to be cooler in the morning and evening, reaching their peak in the afternoon.

Visitors are encouraged to dress according to the weather outside in summer, and wear layers that can be removed or added for comfort in winter. A complimentary coat check is available year-round for outerwear. Visitors are also encouraged to bring a filled, re-usable water bottle from home and practice sun safety (e.g. wear a hat, sunglasses and/or sunscreen) when visiting during daylight hours.

Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden

The Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden is currently populated with painted ladies, a species that is native to Canada. These butterflies behave differently than tropical species and may be less active or visible at times, particularly on cloudy days and after dark. We hope to have tropical species back in the Garden soon.
