This is a position for a real “people person.” Greet and welcome visitors as they enter the Zoo or explore the Park, help them find the facilities and exhibits they are looking for, share the news of the day regarding special events and activities - all of these and more fall under the Ambassador job description. And, of course, as our diplomats of customer service, you do it all with a smile!

If you are outgoing and love making facts “come alive” for an audience, we need you on our team. Using interpretive techniques and tools, Volunteer Interpreters interact with adults and children throughout the Zoo, sharing information about our animals and inspiring a connection to the environment and conservation. Additional training is provided.

Visitor Services Concierge

Concierge volunteers assist the Visitor Services team at the Zoo entrance in this high energy position. They guide visitors from around the world and here at home through the use of self-service ticket kiosks, answer questions and keep the lineups moving.

Zoo Camp Crew

Assiniboine Park Conservancy is looking for energetic youth age 15 to 19 to be part of our Zoo Camp Crew. This is an opportunity to earn community service hours while working with 6 to 12 year old Zoo campers under the direction of our Education team. The Zoo Camp Crew will provide support to camp staff and assist children along a journey of wild exploration. Every day is a new adventure as the campers discover the Zoo and Park. Time commitment: minimum of 40 hours served in one week blocks in July and August (weekdays only). Special fast track orientation and training just for Zoo Camp Crew!

Other Opportunities

Once you have completed your training as an Ambassador, there are many more year round opportunities for our volunteers:

Special Events

In addition to regular Ambassador shifts, Special Events Volunteers help with a variety of roles during our special event activities throughout the year. Arts and crafts, reading stories, or face painting are typical activities. If you enjoy interacting with children and meeting new people, we welcome your skills as a Special Events Volunteer. Special events at Assiniboine Park and Zoo include Northern Explorer Month, International Polar Bear Day, Red Panda Day, Wildest Dreams, Brunch with Santa and many more throughout the year.

Committee Volunteers

If you enjoy collaborating with like-minded, goal-oriented volunteers, we have committees for planning and organizing unique events like the Polar Bear Run and Wildest Dreams. Our fundraising volunteer committee is always on the lookout for new members willing to share their ideas and experience.

Bus Marshal and School Group Greeters

In May and June, Bus Marshals and School Group Greeters assist the Visitor Services team at the Zoo entrance in this high energy seasonal position. Volunteers in this position help greet buses, organize groups, and provide a positive first experience for young visitors to the Zoo.
